Overview
La Rioja, a renowned region in Spain, has earned international acclaim for its exceptional wine quality, and it's easy to see why. Boasting over 500 wineries and an array of captivating walking routes, including the famous St. James Way pilgrimage trail, La Rioja offers the ideal blend for a wine and walking adventure.
Your base is in Haro, the wine capital of the region, where you'll be accommodated in a historic, centrally located hotel. During your stay in La Rioja, you'll embark on a guided tour of Logrono, the regional capital, and savour local tapas on the vibrant La Laurel street. Known for its many tapas bars, some of which specialize in a single tapa, this experience immerses you in the local culinary culture. To top off the day, you'll walk a portion of the Camino de Santiago route from Logrono to Navarrete.
One of the highlights of your journey is a visit to a traditional winery run by a local harvesting family in Fuenmayor. Here, you'll step into the shoes of a winemaker for a day, meandering through vineyards while gaining insights into the complete wine-making process, from inception to bottling. Test your newfound knowledge as you craft your very own bottle of wine to take home.
As your holiday culminates, you'll explore Laguardia, one of Spain's most picturesque villages. This impeccably preserved 13th-century fortified town exudes a medieval charm. What sets Laguardia apart is its subterranean world—a network of approximately 300 caves, many still actively used for wine production and storage. Stroll through the cobbled streets of Laguardia, absorbing the town's rich culture, and indulge in a wine tasting session at one of the local bodegas.
