Walking Holidays to Latvia

Latvia is a small European country situated in the Baltic Sea and is home to sprawling unspoilt landscapes, charming cities and just under two-million residents. Over 600,000 of these residents reside in Riga, a cultural hotspot and the country’s capital city, which you can explore on our ‘Baltic Discovery’ itinerary. When exploring Riga with Ramble Worldwide, you’ll be able to do so with the help of one of our local guides, who will give you their specialist local knowledge on all the sights you see. You will get a real taste of the city, taking in its atmosphere and ambience, while seeing its best sights in the process. The city is known for its art-nouveau architecture, with a wealth of impressive buildings being built in this style throughout the area, one of the most prominent of which is the Cat House, known for the two black cat statues which sit on its roof. Another one of the city’s most recognisable buildings is Riga Cathedral, which features heavily in television shows about the city, and is often the centrepiece of paintings and photographs. Situated close by to this is the Powder Tower, a cylindrical tower which was formerly part of the area’s defence system; today, it houses an insightful war museum.

Our holiday walking grades

Leisurely

Grade 3

We still class this level as leisurely; walks are generally a little longer than level 2, with undulations but over a longer distance. Where sightseeing distances are longer, we take a full day with opportunities to stop, rest and refuel. Generally, itineraries involve easy countryside walking with plenty of breaks,

Usual daily walks - Distance: 4 miles; Ascent/Descent 300m; Terrain: generally good paths and tracks; Walking Time: Half Day or Full Day walks.
