Dordogne walking holidays

Are you looking for a walking holiday that will allow you to experience idyllic scenery and historic architecture? Then a walking holiday in the Dordogne is right for you. The Dordogne, located in southwestern France, is a region known for its scenic landscapes, rich history, and charming villages, making it an ideal destination for a walking holiday.

Why choose a walking holiday in the Dordogne?

The Dordogne offers walkers a number of enticing reasons to visit for a holiday. It’s a lovely region to explore, not least because of its scenic environments that feature gentle hills, lush forests, and meandering rivers. The Dordogne River itself offers stunning views from the paths alongside its banks, wending through villages and cliffs.

There are also historical and cultural riches to discover, such as medieval towns and villages, as well as ancient Cistercian abbeys and old chateaus. The clifftop village of Rocamadour can also be explored, a UNESCO World Heritage site that acts as the gateway to Dordogne.

We still class this level as leisurely; walks are generally a little longer than level 2, with undulations but over a longer distance. Where sightseeing distances are longer, we take a full day with opportunities to stop, rest and refuel. Generally, itineraries involve easy countryside walking with plenty of breaks,

Usual daily walks - Distance: 4 miles; Ascent/Descent 300m; Terrain: generally good paths and tracks; Walking Time: Half Day or Full Day walks.
