2025 walking holidays in Portugal

Embark on a walking holiday in Portugal’s enchanting landscape to discover untouched golden beaches beside flourishing lemon groves in the Western Algarve. Trek the almond blossomed trails of Douro Valley into the heart of this Port wine region, or to lush moss terraced vineyards in Madeira. Portugal delights the senses: colourful flowers spill from balconies of centuries-old fishing villages, glasses clink with crisp Vinho Verde, and the hot air is filled with scents of sweet orange and lemon.

On Portugal’s mainland, wild horses roam free in the sweeping hillsides of Peneda-Geres National Park. We follow a rustic mountain trail past rolling meadows of blossoming wildflowers. Alternatively, discover a quieter, greener side to this alluring destination as we visit the country’s Emerald Coast. Stop by quaint Minho villages and ramble over lush pastoral valleys and protected coves.

In Madeira's incredible countryside, we’ll hike over the eroded crater of an ancient volcano, before reaching rugged pointed reefs and natural mineral bathing pools. Savour a glass of Poncha under the warm sun - a local alcoholic drink served on the rocks.

Why Visit Portugal?

Portugal’s beautifully varied landscape provides a huge diversity of routes for our walking trips. Most of these trails are moderately paced, making rambling here highly accessible for inexperienced walkers.

Escape the fast pace of modern life and enjoy slower surroundings. Relax in the traditional sea-faring towns, Moorish labyrinths of cobblestone streets, and unspoilt rural heartlands. Although it's a small country, if you are planning a trip to go walking in Portugal, then it has so much to offer. From the sandy, sun-drenched beaches of the Algarve to walking in Madiera’s network of mossy Levada footpaths, a world of diversity and culture is waiting.

Why Book a Portugal Walking Walking Holiday with Ramble Worldwide?

Our expert leaders will help navigate you through luscious trails and overcome trickier hikes while providing fascinating information about your surroundings. Plus, your comfortable, hand-picked accommodation provides the perfect sanctuary to unwind after the day’s excursions.

Many of our walking holidays in Portugal include the option of "flexi-walking". This offers an optional shorter route on many of the outings, giving you the choice of how far you’d like to walk to suit what works for you. With a wide range of walking grades on offer, there's something for everyone, whether it's a relaxed ramble or a more active, challenging adventure. Our walks are graded 1-8 and from ‘leisurely’ to ‘challenging’.

Take a look at our individual holidays and itinerary pages, and book your Portuguese getaway, today.
