La Gomera

Ramble Worldwide | Wed 21 Oct 2009

I especially love taking my groups on the climb to the top of Garajonay, the centre and high-point of the island. The views are stunning and on a clear day you can see four of the other Canary Islands. Then we could be on a silent nature walk through the magical ancient cloud forest, the droplets of water on the leaves glistening in the light. The contrast of the landscape is what makes the island so wonderful, and another day we could be walking down a dramatic gorge to end up at a fabulous just-made-for-walkers rustic restaurant! The food is amazing and there’s nothing like a bowl of home-made watercress soup served up piping hot in authentic wooden bowls! I usually follow it up with the local delicacy “Papas Arrugas” which are really just wrinkled potatoes, BUT, served with a choice of red or green mojo sauce, they are the best spuds you’ll ever taste!
