Continue with a short walk to the nearby National Museum, an elegant sandstone building that houses the world’s largest collection of Khmer art.

For lunch, enjoy a meaningful dining experience at Lotus Blanc Training Restaurant, a social enterprise dedicated to providing vocational training and opportunities in hospitality for underprivileged youth.

In the afternoon, take a short drive to Choeung Ek, one of the infamous Killing Fields, where more than a million people lost their lives between 1975 and 1979. Today, this solemn site is a memorial marked by a Buddhist stupa filled with the remains of victims, serving as a poignant reminder of Cambodia’s history.

This morning, fly from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel before heading to a nearby restaurant for lunch.

In the afternoon, meet one of Cambodia’s most acclaimed contemporary artists, Channy Chhoeun, and hear the remarkable story of his artistic journey. Travel by tuk-tuk to Wat Atvea, a village south of Siem Reap, where you’ll be warmly welcomed into Channy’s home studio and gallery. Discover his inspiring path from growing up in a remote jungle community to studying at the renowned Phare Ponleu Selpak art school.

Angkor Wat Archaeological Park

Begin your morning with an unforgettable tour of the Angkor Wat archaeological park. Explore the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument and the best-preserved temple in the complex. Your journey continues to the atmospheric Ta Prohm Temple, one of Cambodia’s most beloved sites. Left largely in its natural state, Ta Prohm is embraced by towering trees and jungle roots, creating a mystical and unforgettable scene.

Conclude the day with a buffet dinner accompanied by a traditional Apsara dance performance, a cultural highlight that brings ancient Khmer legends to life.

After breakfast, depart from your hotel for a day of discovery outside Siem Reap, about 35 km away. Begin with a scenic village walking tour, passing serene rice paddies, vibrant pagodas, vegetable gardens, and a traditional fish farm. Visit a local family who prepares kralan—Cambodia’s delicious bamboo sticky rice, and observe daily village activities such as blacksmithing, which supports farming life, along with traditional craft weaving.

For lunch, enjoy a freshly prepared meal by a women’s association, served in a picturesque lakeside setting surrounded by lush rice fields.

In the afternoon, continue to Wat Lorm Proleung, an ancient pagoda, where you’ll be greeted by local musicians performing the lively Chhai Yam dance. Experience a traditional monk blessing, a meaningful ritual designed to bring good fortune and lifelong memories.

Your journey concludes with a visit to Kampong Khleang, a remarkable stilted village on Tonle Sap Lake. Home to around 10,000 residents, the community depends largely on fishing. Booking Your Own Travel Arrangements

If you prefer to arrange your own flights from a non-UK or regional airport or travel to your holiday destination by rail or car, you may qualify for 'land only' reductions, and we can provide details upon request. Feel free to reach out to us for more information.

Before finalizing any independent travel arrangements, especially if you're doing so 12 weeks or more before your intended travel date, please check with us first to ensure your holiday has been cleared to operate. If you plan to join your holiday locally, kindly inform us at least 14 weeks in advance.

If you're joining and leaving your holiday overseas, we assume, unless you specify otherwise, that you will join and leave the holiday at your hotel.

Although airport/station transfers are not included for those making independent travel arrangements, you may have the option to join the group at the overseas airport/station, depending on your arrival time. If interested, contact us at least 5 weeks before departure for more details.

Please be aware that you must arrive within 30 minutes of the group flight/train arrival to be eligible for the group transfer. Additionally, we'll need your flight number, arrival time, and departure point or independent travel arrangements to ensure the group leader can meet up with you. Dinners will vary between the hotel and local restaurants.  The meals are a mixture of local Cambodian and international cuisine. Local restaurants will allow us the opportunity to sample traditional and local food.  


Footwear & Kit List

Footwear

Good quality waterproof walking shoes or trail shoes with a thick, moulded sole with a good tread and a low heel are likely to be all that is required for these holidays. If you are a frequent walker and are comfortable in good quality hiking sandals, these may be adequate for some walks. You can wear lightweight walking boots if you prefer.

Staying Healthy On Holiday

Health requirements in destination can change, and it's crucial for you to take responsibility in staying informed. Ensure that you consult a professionally qualified source and comply with any health requirements at least 6 to 8 weeks before your departure. Your GP can provide advice on vaccinations. Stay proactive about your health preparations to ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience.

Health Advice for Cambodia

No compulsory vaccinations are required. Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Tetanus vaccinations are recommended and you may also wish to consider protection against Cholera, Hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis and Rabies.

Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for travellers over 1 year of age arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission and for travellers having transited more than 12 hours through the airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.

There is a risk of Malaria throughout the year in all areas except some main cities. Please seek advice from your doctor or travel clinic. Dengue fever and Zika virus also exist in Cambodia; please take normal precautions against mosquito bites. Seek pre-travel Zika virus advice from your health care provider 6-8 weeks in advance of travel, particularly important if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.

There have been some cases of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) in poultry in Cambodia. 

There is a risk of schistosomiasis, a parasitic infection (also known as bilharzia) that is transmitted to humans through contact with fresh water. Please seek advice from your doctor or travel clinic.

Travel Insurance

It’s a condition of booking that you obtain adequate travel insurance, from a reputable provider, to undertake the holiday, including UK trips chiefly due to the cancellation element of cover.

The policy must cover the period from the date of booking to the last day of your trip and should include, as a minimum, cover for: medical expenses (including the consequences of a Covid positive test result), mountain rescue including helicopter rescue, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment and shall not have exclusion clauses limiting cover for the activities you will partake in on your trip, including altitudes reached in the holiday arrangement. It is your responsibility to check that your policy is adequate for the nature and destination of the holiday booked.

Once you have obtained your travel insurance, please provide us with the name of your travel insurer, the policy number and the insurer’s 24 hour emergency assistance number.

If you fail to obtain suitable Travel Insurance we shall not be liable for any costs incurred or claims made against us due to your failure to comply with this term.

If travelling outside the UK you must carry proof of insurance with you and produce it if reasonably requested to do so by RWH Travel staff, tour leaders or suppliers. No refunds will be made should you be excluded from the walking programme through being uninsured or you are unable to demonstrate that you are insured.

If you are travelling to an EU country or Switzerland, please also ensure that you have either an existing valid EU EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card) or a valid UK GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card).
