Accommodation
Hotel Gruner Baum
Today is usually the local guide’s day off. Because we want to maximise opportunities according to the weather conditions, if the weather is ideal today, your Ramble Worldwide tour leader may lead the walk to Körbersee (see below), rather than leaving it to later in the week. The Körbersee walk is a highlight of the week and we suggest not to be missed!
Whilst we have chosen Bach im Lechtal for the excellent snowshoe walking on offer, other winter sports are available in the area. Your Ramble Worldwide leader will describe various options and if the Körbersee walk is offered today, then you might prefer prioritising a snowshoe-free option, as outlined below, on a different day – the choice will be yours.
Other winter sports available in the Bach area:
Winter walking – many of the summer hiking trails are prepared for winter walking. Whilst most of these are in the valleys, some go as high as mountain huts. There are three mountain huts around Bach, which are open in the winter, and these make good winter walking destinations using poles and wearing your ice grippers on your boots.
Cross country (‘XC’) skiing – there are 120km (80 miles) of prepared XC ‘Loipen’, one of which goes past the hotel and local maps are available. Many of the others can be accessed using the free bus in the valley between Steeg about 12km (8 miles) to the west and Forschach about 25km (16 miles) to the northeast.
Downhill skiing - there is one cable car in Bach, which gives access to a blue and a red downhill ski run (cable car not included in the free bus pass). The nearest extensive downhill skiing is about 25km (16 miles) to the west near Warth which has 17 ski lifts. There is a free ski-bus to Warth which takes about 25 minutes. The road to Lech am Arlberg is closed in the winter.
Please note that these other winter sports activities are not included as a part of your holiday nor can we take any part in organising them. If you would like to take part in any of them you need to make sure you have adequate insurance and make your own arrangements locally.
