Summer in the Dolomites

Ramble Worldwide | Tue 05 Jan 2016

The striking mountain scenery of the Dolomites makes it a hugely popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts – but in the summer months, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a paradise for walkers, as Lynda and Martin Bryan-Brown found when they joined a tour in the heart of the Dolomites .

We have just returned from the very first holiday in Colfosco in the Dolomites. It was absolutely wonderful!

We stayed in a beautiful hotel with amazing food in a superb position, giving lovely views of the landscape in which we would be walking. It is a two- grade holiday, D+ and C, but it has to be said that the walking was sometimes towards the top of the grade and occasionally above; it was challenging at times, but extremely rewarding, especially in the gorgeous weather we had for the whole fortnight.

It is a very exciting area with the limestone cliffs rising straight up to over 3,000m but also with beautiful pastures filled with wild flowers which are a joy to walk through. There are many cable cars to help with the ascent, a very efficient bus service and lots of huts for refreshments along the way.

I have done many Ramble Worldwide holidays over the years but, for me, this was the best one ever. We had two excellent leaders who complemented each other extremely well and who worked hard to find appropriate walks each day, and we had very pleasant companions to share the holiday with us. We thought it was a great new holiday for the Ramble Worldwide brochure and we look forward to doing more wonderful trips in the future.
