Since 2016, I have relished being a walking holiday leader. Inspired by a friend's amazing experiences with Ramble Worldwide, I decided to give it a go. I enjoy hillwalking in Ireland where I live and frequently walk with my walking club in the NW. Becoming a Ramble Worldwide leader lets me use my experience gained there, as well as introducing me to a wider range of skills needed to deliver and deal with the unexpected which can turn up out of the blue!
My first trip as a leader in Austria's Maria Alm left me hooked on the joy of exploring beautiful parts of the world with like-minded people. I think I've now travelled to over 20 countries since becoming a leader over 9 years ago.
I don’t keep to one particular grade of walks, I choose each one for its location and what we will experience during the trip. I enjoy relaxed tours with a mix of sightseeing and cultural experiences as much as those with longer harder walking.
When I'm not leading Ramble Worldwide tours, I volunteer with the Woodland Trust, which is dedicated to planting new woodlands and preserving ancient ones.
It’s difficult to choose my favourite holiday or country as each has its own charms and delights but it’s hard to beat Switzerland for the picture-perfect scenery and great hiking and of course walking in Nepal is an aspiration for all of us walkers - the Alps or the Himalayas? I’ll take either!
