During these festive breaks, we'll walk one of the finest stretches of the Cotswold Way to Leckhampton Hill before taking in the spectacular views from the Devil's Chimney and the Cotswold Escarpment, with fantastic winter vistas across the River Severn to Wales.
We'll discover another beautiful section of the Cotswold Way, walking approximately 7 miles north from the historic market town of Painswick back to the hotel. We can also walk out to Cooper's Hill, famous for its annual cheese rolling competition, and ascend to the historic village of Birdlip for another stunning Cotswold panorama before descending through the village of Little Witcombe.
The pace throughout these holidays will be as relaxed as possible, allowing you to truly savour the winter landscape and festive atmosphere.

Celebrate Christmas in the heart of the Cotswolds with our special 5-night festive break. On Christmas Day, we'll take a shorter walk and stroll past Witcombe Reservoir and the remains of a Roman Villa before returning to the hotel to enjoy the rest of the day in the company of our travelling companions.
The Christmas departure includes a full festive lunch on Christmas Day, followed by a buffet in the evening, ensuring a memorable celebration in beautiful surroundings.
The Heart of the Cotswolds at New Year
Operates on 29 December for 4 nights
Ring in the New Year with style on our 4-night winter break. Celebrate New Year's Eve with a party night at the hotel featuring evening entertainment, combining wonderful Cotswolds winter walks with festive celebrations.

The walking on these festive breaks is designed to be relaxed and enjoyable, suitable for those with a reasonable level of fitness. We'll cover approximately 7 miles on full walking days, with a shorter walk on Christmas Day. The Cotswold Way offers well-maintained paths with some gentle ascents, rewarding you with spectacular winter views across the countryside. The pace is leisurely, allowing plenty of time to appreciate the stunning scenery.

Crisp, clear days reveal spectacular long-distance views across the valleys, often stretching as far as Wales. Winter walking provides invigorating fresh air and exercise, perfectly complementing the festive celebrations.

Absolutely! Approximately half our participants are solo travellers, and the festive season makes these breaks particularly special for those travelling alone. The shared experience of celebrating Christmas or New Year with fellow walkers creates a wonderfully warm and inclusive atmosphere. Many guests return year after year, having made lasting friendships on previous festive breaks.
What should I bring for winter walking?
For Cotswolds winter walks, we recommend sturdy walking boots with good ankle support, warm layers including a waterproof jacket, gloves, and a hat. Winter weather in the Cotswolds can be changeable, so layering is key. The hotel provides comfortable accommodation where you can warm up after each day's walk. We'll provide more detailed packing information when you book.
