What does this mean?
Thoughtfully designed, meticulously planned, carefully graded, and expertly guided walking tours and hiking holidays along well-loved and off-the-beaten-track footpaths.
Overview
Experience some of the finest mountain and fell walking in the Lake District on this rewarding guided walking holiday based at Hassness Country House. Situated in a spectacular lakeside setting on the shores of Buttermere, Hassness provides the perfect base from which to explore the dramatic landscapes of the Western and Central Fells.
Designed for experienced walkers who enjoy challenging days in the mountains, this holiday showcases a wonderful variety of terrain, from panoramic ridges and high mountain passes to remote valleys, hidden tarns and classic Lakeland summits. Accompanied by experienced volunteer leaders, you'll discover some of the Lake District's most celebrated walking country while enjoying the camaraderie of a sociable group and the reassurance of expert guidance.
Throughout the week, you'll explore landscapes that inspired Alfred Wainwright and generations of fell walkers. Traverse the magnificent Robinson Ridge, where far-reaching views extend across Buttermere, Newlands and beyond. Walk through the heart of the fells to visit beautiful mountain tarns and high passes, where the rugged scenery captures the timeless character of the Lake District.
A particular highlight is the opportunity to journey between some of Lakeland's most iconic valleys. From the dramatic scenery of Borrowdale and Langdale to the remote tranquillity of Ennerdale and Wasdale, each day reveals a different side of the National Park. Along the way, you'll encounter ancient packhorse routes, historic mining landscapes, mountain tarns and some of England's most celebrated fell scenery.
The holiday also explores one of the Lake District's most inspiring conservation landscapes. In Wild Ennerdale, extensive rewilding projects are helping to restore natural habitats and create a more resilient landscape, offering a fascinating contrast to the traditional farming valleys elsewhere in the National Park. Combined with the remote setting of Black Sail, England's most isolated youth hostel, this creates a truly memorable walking experience.
After each day's adventure, return to the comfort and warm hospitality of Hassness. Enjoy hearty home-cooked meals, friendly company and the peaceful surroundings of one of the Lake District's most enviable locations. With challenging walks, spectacular scenery and a carefully planned programme that showcases the very best of the Western and Central Fells, this holiday offers an unforgettable experience for walkers seeking to immerse themselves in the beauty and grandeur of the Lake District.
