Overview
This immersive journey across Saudi Arabia traces the Kingdom’s evolution from ancient desert civilizations to its dynamic present day. Beginning in Riyadh, you will witness the country’s modern pulse, gleaming towers, orderly avenues, and thriving neighbourhoods, set against reminders of its storied past in historic fortresses, museums, and traditional markets. From there, the route ventures into the northwest, where the landscapes open into vast volcanic plains, crimson deserts, and rugged mountain ranges. In Tabuk and the Hisma Desert, off-road adventures, canyon walks, and sweeping views reveal a wilderness shaped by wind and time, while the palm-filled valley of Wadi Disah offers striking contrasts of water, greenery, and towering sandstone cliffs.
The experience deepens in AlUla, a living museum of nature and archaeology. Here, you will explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hegra with its monumental Nabataean tombs carved directly into rock faces, stroll shaded oasis trails beneath palm groves, and wander through AlUla Old Town’s narrow lanes of mudbrick houses and traditional souks. Contemporary culture meets ancient heritage in landmarks such as Maraya, the world-famous mirrored concert hall that reflects the surrounding desert like an art piece. The journey then follows historic pilgrimage routes to Medina, where the spiritual energy of the Prophet’s Mosque shapes the city’s rhythm, before concluding in Jeddah on the Red Sea. In this coastal hub, coral-stone houses of Al Balad, lively waterfront promenades, and cosmopolitan cafés capture the Kingdom’s openness and modern momentum. Together, these destinations create a rich narrative of Saudi Arabia—one of heritage, hospitality, dramatic scenery, and bold vision for the future.

Let’s begin by exploring Saudi Arabia’s rich and captivating past. Start at Al Masmak Fortress in the heart of the old town. This 150-year-old clay and mud-brick citadel, which witnessed the founding of the Kingdom, stands as a powerful reminder of Saudi Arabia’s storied history. Justice Square offers another glimpse into the past, while traditional markets like Souq al Zel and Souq Bisht preserve the character of old Riyadh, even as modern supermarkets dominate elsewhere. For a deeper dive into the nation’s heritage, visit the elegant Murabba Palace and the National Museum of Saudi Arabia, where history comes to life.
After lunch at a traditional restaurant, head across town to the King Abdullah Financial District , a soaring symbol of modernity and the Kingdom’s growing role in regional business. Admire the mosque’s striking architecture and enjoy a coffee break amid the district’s contemporary skyline.
Next, explore Ad Diriyah, the birthplace of the first Saudi state, At-Turaif, which ruled from 1744 to 1818. Recently restored to its original glory, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s cultural tourism. Discover the unique mud-brick architecture, learn how homes were cooled during scorching summers, and gain insight into daily life before electricity and modern conveniences.
Conclude the day with a memorable dinner at one of the top-quality restaurants at Bujairi Terrace, enjoying the blend of history, culture, and modern hospitality.

After breakfast, the journey continues southward, passing through a dramatic landscape of vast deserts and rugged mountain ranges.
Upon reaching the entrance of Wadi Disah, the day’s adventure begins with a scenic hike through this extraordinary valley. Known as the Valley of the Palm Trees, Wadi Disah is one of Saudi Arabia’s most striking natural wonders, featuring towering sandstone cliffs, vibrant rock formations, and freshwater springs that nourish lush vegetation along the valley floor.
The trail winds through the canyon, offering a gradual immersion into ever-changing scenery, where dramatic rock spires rise overhead and natural pools mirror the shifting light. Along the way, there are ample opportunities to pause for observation, photography, and quiet reflection amid the tranquil surroundings.
After the hike, a short drive brings you to a nearby mango farm, where lunch is served under the shade of fruit trees, offering a glimpse into the region’s agricultural practices in this arid environment. Following lunch, the journey continues toward AlUla, with arrival in the late afternoon.
As the afternoon light takes on a golden hue, visit Elephant Rock (Jabal Alfil). Rising dramatically from the desert sands into the blue Arabian sky, this iconic geological formation is one of AlUla’s most awe-inspiring natural landmarks.

AlUla captivates visitors with its extraordinary natural rock formations, deep canyons, extensive pre-Arabic rock art, and remarkably well-preserved tombs built over 2,000 years ago by the Nabataeans. Begin the day at Hegra, the Nabataean kingdom’s southern capital dating back to the 1st century BCE. Here, follow a local ‘rawee’ or storyteller to explore several of the more than 100 monumental tombs, many with intricately carved facades sculpted from the surrounding rock formations.
Next, head to the AlUla Oasis for lunch at a nearby restaurant nestled among lush date farms, providing a serene setting before the afternoon trek.
The trek starts with a 3 km walk along the Oasis Heritage Trail, winding through shaded paths lined with palm trees, citrus orchards, and small farms. Traditional mudbrick structures and irrigation systems offer insight into the region’s agricultural history. The trail continues into AlJadeeda, AlUla’s art district, where walking streets showcase murals, installations, and intimate galleries.
The walk concludes at AlUla Old Town, a restored historic settlement of narrow alleys, traditional buildings, and quaint shops. Once a key stop on ancient trade routes, the town today harmoniously blends preserved heritage with modern cafés and boutiques.

After breakfast, depart early for Sharaan Nature Reserve to embark on a full-day hiking adventure in Madakel Canyon. The guided trek follows a narrow canyon carved by wind and water over centuries.
This 4-hour hike involves navigating tight passages, scrambling over natural rock formations, and walking along uneven terrain. With towering canyon walls on either side, the route offers both geological fascination and a rewarding physical challenge. Short rest stops are built in along the way, providing opportunities to observe the area’s unique desert vegetation and striking rock formations. The hike concludes by early afternoon, followed by a transfer back to your hotel and time to relax.
Spend the afternoon at leisure, enjoy the hotel facilities or take a refreshing dip in the pool, before heading out for a farewell dinner in AlUla at one of its most modern marvels: Maraya. Located in Ashar Valley, Maraya is an iconic mirrored landmark, its façade composed of 9,740 glass panels reflecting the surrounding desert. Explore the venue, step onto its stage, and tour its vast interior, experiencing the seamless fusion of art, technology, and nature.

Travel across deserts and mountains toward Medina, following an ancient pilgrimage route. Forget endless sand dunes, this volcanic region is defined by black lava fields, rugged peaks, and a deep sense of history. Medina, one of Islam’s two holiest cities (along with Mecca), is cantered around Al Masjid an Nabawi, the vast 10-minaret Prophet’s Mosque capable of welcoming around a million worshippers. Join the flow of pilgrims at the heart of the city and take in the powerful atmosphere. Non-Muslims may enjoy the exterior views of the mosque from the edge of the surrounding square.
In the afternoon, board one of Saudi Arabia’s high-speed trains for a brief journey, less than two hours, to the coastal city of Jeddah on the Red Sea. This major commercial hub, home to one of the region’s busiest ports, is the principal gateway to Mecca and welcomes more than a million pilgrims each year. Jeddah is also known as one of Saudi Arabia’s most relaxed and cosmopolitan destinations, blending historic architecture with modern comforts.
Celebrate your arrival with drinks along the scenic corniche. Relax on a carpet with a traditional takwa picnic seat, soaking in the sea breeze as the sun sets and the call to prayer echoes across the waterfront. As evening falls, watch the world’s tallest fountain light up the night sky.
Spend the late afternoon exploring Al Balad, Jeddah’s enchanting old town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. Its traditional multi-story houses and historic merchant residences showcase distinctive architecture. The carved wooden roshan window screens, designed to offer shade and natural cooling, lend the narrow lanes a uniquely picturesque charm amid the bustle of markets and pilgrims.
Conclude your journey with a seafood farewell dinner, savoring fresh local dishes and offering a warm “hay maa al-salama” — goodbye, until we meet again.
