I’ve been leading for over 25 years and have lost count of the number of tours I’ve guided so far! At a guess, approaching 200. My parents were keen walkers, and I remember my first trip to the Lake District with them when I was about 12. Through my twenties, I was concentrating on my career, but I went back to it with renewed interest in my thirties when I joined my local Ramblers group and was introduced to leading for the company by a friend in that group.
My favourite thing about leading is getting to know a new set of clients, and the sense of satisfaction that comes from seeing them gel as a group and helping them to enjoy their holiday.
The English Lake District is one of the most beautiful walking areas in the UK. A visit to the lakes rewards the visitor with rugged mountainscapes, towering summits, open ridges and lakeshore paths.
View DestinationThe pleasant climate, spectacular mountainous peaks and natural bathing pools make walking holidays in Madeira a tremendous experience. This remote island, sat off the northwest coast of Africa, is adored by avid walkers for its well-maintained footpaths, varied terrain and a multitude of scenic views. Choose from moderate walking to more energetic, challenging endeavours as you pass by strikingly beautiful, yet readily accessible scenery. Some walks take you along ’levadas’, a type of waterway.
View DestinationDuring my time as a leader, I’ve been fortunate to have travelled widely across the world and it’s hard to pick my favourite places, as they’re all so different! But anywhere with mountains is special, notably our own Lake District – but I’ve really enjoyed the tours I’ve led in the Alps too, and if there’s sea as well as mountains even better, so Madeira fits the bill!
