This morning, your drive takes you to the foothills of the Banasura range, the starting point for today’s superb walk. The trail climbs almost immediately, winding uphill through semi-dry deciduous jungle before opening into sweeping grasslands. A final 200-metre stretch over gravel brings you to your lunch spot - “Frog Rock”. Along the way, your guides will help you discover the rich variety of flora and fauna.
After lunch, you’ll follow the trail downhill, with the last section leading you through coffee, pepper, and rubber plantations.

Farmers form the backbone of village life. To give you a deeper insight into their world, this unique full-day experience lets you spend an entire day with a local farmer—a first-of-its-kind package offered by a holiday maker.

The Lakshmi Hills consist of seven hills offering stunning views and a touch of mystique from the mist and low clouds. Your trek begins at an altitude of around 1,460 meters, winding through tea plantations for 30–40 minutes until you reach the ridge. From there, the trail follows the ridge, revealing breath taking scenery: on one side, rocky mountain slopes, and on the other, tea plantations, patches of Shola forest, and open grasslands. On a clear day, you can spot Anamudi Peak, the highest in South India, and the Idukki Reservoir, created by the Idukki Dam, one of Asia’s highest arch dams and the third tallest in India. After spending time at the top capturing memories and soaking in the views, you’ll return down the hill, concluding the trek where it began.

While yesterday’s summit provided spectacular views of the lowlands, Chokramudi offers breath-taking panoramas of the Cardamom Hills and lush green tea estates. The trek, easily accessed from the road to Chinnakanal, begins gently through shola thickets. As you climb, the trail opens into grasslands, with some light scrambling near the end. The summit, at around 7,200 feet, is often shrouded in a cool mist, perfectly refreshing after the effort. You’ll then retrace your steps back down the trail.

Today, you’ll leave Kerala and travel to the Raj-era hill station of Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu (approximately a 6–7-hour drive). While most of the day is spent traveling, there will be stops to stretch your legs and enjoy refreshments. Kodaikanal, or “Kodai” as it’s often called, sits at an altitude of over 2,000 meters atop the Palani Hills, offering stunning views over the Vagai Plain. You’ll spend the next three nights in Kodai.

The currency in India is the Rupee (Rs). It is not usually possible to buy or sell Indian currency outside India. All prices in India will be listed in Rupees. It is possible to exchange small amounts of cash (take some cash with you - US Dollars and Sterling being the easiest ) and the larger towns have banks with ATMs where you can withdraw Rupees (ensure your debit card is linked with Visa or Mastercard). Leader's Evening Briefing
Each evening, your tour leader will meet with you to review the programme for the next day. This is your chance to discuss details and ensure that the planned activities align with your walking ability. If you have any concerns about clothing or equipment, feel free to bring them up during this discussion. If, for any reason, you prefer not to participate in the organised group programme, please inform your leader. Your preferences are important, and your leader is there to make sure your experience aligns with your expectations.
We travel from London to Bangalore and return from Chennai. On arrival into Bangalore the transfer from the airport to our hotel in Mysore will take approximately 3 hours by road, dependent on traffic conditions.
Booking Your Own Travel Arrangements
If you prefer to arrange your own flights from a non-UK or regional airport or travel to your holiday destination by rail or car, you may qualify for 'land only' reductions, and we can provide details upon request. Feel free to reach out to us for more information.

If you're joining and leaving your holiday overseas, we assume, unless you specify otherwise, that you will join and leave the holiday at your hotel.

A passport is required to visit India and it must be valid for a minimum of six months from your intended return to the UK. It is necessary to have at least two blank pages in your passport to allow for a visa to be inserted. A visa is required for entry into India. The visa is not included in the holiday charge and must be obtained by you before departure.

You can apply for an e-visa for India between 30 days and 3 days prior to the date of arrival in India. The visa is double entry and will be valid for 30 days from date of arrival. The visa cost as of Mar 2023 was US$25. Please note this price changes regularly with no prior notice from the Indians.

As in most Asian countries, modesty of dress is sensible. Very short shorts are considered improper in some areas and women should exercise caution when exposing the upper arms or shoulders as this can cause offence. Breakfasts will be taken at the hotels, lunches will be a mixture of hot lunches taken in local restaurants and packed picnic lunches depending on the itinerary. Dinners will in a mixture of hotels and local restaurants, offering local cuisines and occasionally western cuisines. Please make us aware of any dietary requirements you have before the trip departs.
Health requirements in destination can change, and it's crucial for you to take responsibility in staying informed. No compulsory immunisations are required for visits to India, although you should be up to date with the usual immunisations recommended in the UK.
Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Typhoid immunisations are recommended, and you might also like to consider immunisations against Rabies, Cholera, Japanese Encephalitis and Hepatitis B.
Malaria is present throughout the year in India; please seek advice from your doctor or travel clinic.
Dengue fever, Zika virus and Chikungunya virus exist in India; please take normal precautions against mosquito bites.
Seek pre-travel Zika virus advice from your health care provider 6-8 weeks in advance of travel, particularly important if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
Air Pollution
Cities may at times experience periods of poor air quality. If you suffer from a respiratory condition you may wish to seek advice from your doctor prior to travel.
Diarrhoea & Boiled Water
Don’t forget to exercise caution with what you eat to avoid upset stomachs and stay away from unpeeled fruit and vegetables, salad and do not have ice in your drinks. Hot, fresh cooked food, where possible, is best.
Hand washing facilities may be poor or unavailable when travelling, we therefore strongly advise you to carry antibacterial sanitizing gel and / or hand wipes at all times and use to them regularly.
Drinking or cleaning teeth in un-boiled water is not recommended. Bottled pure water is inexpensive and widely available in shops, at hotels, and on the coach. Make sure you only buy sealed bottles.

We grant funds to many organisations and have recently partnered with Mind Over Mountains, Adaptive Grand Slam, and other groups to create an enduring impact on people’s lives and to support them to enjoy the outdoors. In addition, the Trust makes many small grants to local organisations such as Ramblers Groups, Walkers are Welcome, My kind of Books and recently provided a small grant, via his scouting group, to enable a young man whose family had fallen on hard times to complete his DofE Gold award.
Patron of the Trust is the renowned explorer, Mark Wood. Over 20 years Mark has undertaken expeditions to some of the most remote parts of our planet. Our shared values make for an exciting partnership, and we believe that by standing shoulder to shoulder we can encourage people from all communities to enjoy being active outdoors in whatever way suits them best.
