Uncover the stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems of the Picos de Europa in Cantabria on an exciting weekend packed with challenging hikes, exceptional rewards and the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature.
The delightful market town of Potes is the gateway to the region, with easy access to trails that meander through lush forests of Mediterranean cork oaks. Unspoiled and less visited, the Picos de Europa National Park is a pristine example of an Atlantic ecosystem, home to brown bears and Iberian wolves though they’re highly elusive. Griffon vultures, golden eagles and Peregrine falcons soar above the slopes.
Start getting to know the high Picos on a thrilling hike. You’ll enjoy a brisk ascent on the spine-tingling Fuente De cable car then strike out from the cable car station beneath the sheer southern wall of the Picos’ central massif. Then marvel at the views as you hike up hill to uncover the fabled peak hidden at the heart of the mountains; the freestanding spike of rock known as Naranjo de Bulnes is a striking natural monument and a must-see during your adventure.
