Escape to the Bohinj Valley in the heart of the Julian Alps to take on some of the best hiking in Slovenia as you traverse one of Europe’s great landscapes.
What does this mean?
Overview
For a hiking weekend without the crowds, look no further than the jagged limestone peaks of the Julian Alps. This exceptional alpine adventure, staying in a charming hotel on the shore of the glacial lake of Bohinj, surrounded by natural splendour, lets you discover Slovenian mountain hiking trails, stunning peaks and hidden lakes over the course of two days of exceptional walking.
Begin your adventure in the Vogel Mountain Range, and see for yourself why the Triglav National Park draws such high praise from hikers. We’ll whisk you high above the treeline into the mountains using cable cars and chairlifts to carry you up the lower slopes. Then it’s time to trek a scenic ridge blessed with exceptional views of the Slovenian Alps. Your high-altitude goals are the peaks of Vogel (1,922m), reached via an exhilarating scramble, Sija (1,880m) and Rodica (1,963m), each offering a dramatic set of panoramas.
The following day you’ll hike the Komarca Trail. Kicking off with a steep climb up the Komarca headwall, with some airy sections of exposed path secured with route protection, you’ll arrive at the source of the Savica River as it emerges from the cliffs. Onwards lies the Black Lake, hidden amongst rugged slopes. A further push will bring you to a pair of secluded mountain huts, the first set magnificently below steepling cliffs, and the latter with one of the best views above Lake Bohinj.
